NIMAS filesets from your print PDF
Publishers of textbooks for schools in the United States are commonly asked to supply NIMAS files. DocSpry makes the fileset from the same born-digital PDF you send to print, so you do not rekey the book.
What is in the fileset
- The book as NIMAS XML with headings, lists, tables, notes, images with their captions, and page numbers that follow the print edition.
- The images, the package file with the title's metadata, and a PDF of the title and copyright pages cut from your source PDF.
- Front matter, body and back matter placed by where they sit in the print book.
- A check of the XML against the NIMAS DTD, with the result in the publish report.
Metadata in one panel
Print ISBN, publisher, subjects, grade levels, content type, edition, years and rights are entered once in the Publish panel. DocSpry also reads what it can from the title and copyright pages.
The same review as your other editions
One reviewed source gives you the NIMAS fileset, an accessible EPUB and an accessible PDF. Fix something once in the editor and every edition picks it up.
What DocSpry does not do
- Scanned PDFs are not supported. DocSpry needs a born-digital PDF with real text.
- A Word file has no printed title and copyright pages to cut, so start from the PDF.
- Titles heavy with mathematics or dense tables need more review. Try one before you commit a whole list.
